Leslie Hall - Lucky Ducky

Leslie Hall initally caught the hearts & eyes of America's children when she began posting images of her world famous gem sweater collection on the interweb. Word of mouth quickly grew and within a month Leslie recieved over 2 million unique hits to her website, which left her with a $800 bill for exceeding her bandwidth. In order to raise money to pay back her mother, Leslie did what any 200 lb. plus girl from Iowa would do. She became a rapper. Lesie is a true business women, she sells her art, t-shirts, music and stretch pants with a uniqueness that is very honest.

I came across Leslie's info while scanning the internet one day at work on CNN.'s website.  It seemed harmless and fun so I dug further into getting to know the world that is Leslie Hall. I must say it is an intersting one, fun, and eventful.  She has created a persona that in due time the world will know of and accept as she has accepted her self, plus sized and wearing gold pants!I had the pleasure of interviewing this Iowa native rapper recently via email, hope you all enjoy her uniquness and personality.  Remember, we here at UniquelyFat celebrate the plus in everyone and recognize Leslie for her bold style and skillz.

Name? Leslie Hall
Occupation? Internet Pioneer / Lady Rapper to the Stars
Hobbies? Crafts, TV, Dancing
Inspiration? Elvira, Tracey Turnblat (ricki lake version), ginger spice, tv. and the need for attention
Travel? If I'm traveling it usually means my luggage is full of sequin tops and spandex pants... as in hired to perform for the masses.
Purpose? I figure if you dress and dance - they will come. Then I shall do' ith
Your uniqueness? Trust me I'm not doing anything that everyone else is not. I just got lucky. LUCKY DUCKY.
Why music and the sweaters? The gem sweaters was a honest attempt at making a fan site for thrift store seekers like me. To gaze and appricate the craftsman ship. Totally innocent. The music is the -gimmie attention - don't play the song on the radio play this... and its my voice chanting -- gosh Iwish I could eat a pizza to a homemade beat.

Big Gurl Vacay!!

Hello all!

Hope everyone is enjoying their new year. Well I started 2010 off right. Like I said in my other post I missed my NYE Party rrrrg! So I was all excited about my cruise I had paid for earlier in the year.

We sailed from Miami (oh how I luv thee) to Freeport, to Nassau Bahamas to the cruise lines private island. I had soooo much fun.

We got to the room and I must say wow. If I were any bigger than I am I wouldn’t have gotten in the room . . . . . . seriously. The bathroom all you can do is turn around, very compact but clean! Until my Moms spilled water on the carpet and as another cruiser we met put it "let the spirits out" LOL. The smell was awful; we thought the toilet had over run. I guess that’s what you get for getting the cheaper room.

The food was wonderful, staff great, cruise director (Matt Baker from Wales U.K.) hilarious! And DJ Impulse from Philly was super nice my Mom and I had fun chatting with him, he was kinda cute if I must say . . . . yea I must. You can find him on the web buy a few tracks have fun. I had such a relaxing time I'm looking for another cruise real soon.

Now we did go to the beach and there was a pool and Jacuzzi, but this big girl don’t do that. I guess I have to mature in my bigness a bit more to put on a bathing suit but I don’t do bathing suits. I have a swim dress . . . . yea I said it, a swim dress which is really cute by the way. I do plan on finding an appropriate swim suit for me that will be cute and flattering. Any suggestions??

All that warm weather has me ready for spring and summer. Nice flowing dresses, sandals and mandals, lol. Haulter tops, shorts, capris, bright and soft colors. I just can’t wait. Now I know I have mentioned Dorothy Perkins website before, well they are getting ready for their spring collection. I absolutely love their clothes and the size range is to die for. Here is a little sneak peak

I want every last piece!

Oh Statement Jewelry How Art Thou???

First I'd like to say Happy New Year. I missed my NYE party, but I ended up spending it with some family I hadn't seen in years.
And second I would like to say Courtney Prince is real top drawer. I caught her at a really busy time to answer some questions regarding her business and she had stated she would have to get back with me after the holidays. Two days later, she had emailed me very detailed answers to my questions and I really do appreciate that. I discovered her art work/jewelry about 2 months ago. On first sight I fell in love, I've seen some other statement jewelry and there was no statement. I personally love the necklaces and hair pieces she has put together. The colors, jewels, crystals, and designs she uses are just gorgeous, and soon I will own me one.

Hey there-Had a moment and wanted to respond....

Name? Courtney Prince- Company Doloris Petunia Occupation? Designer of lovely things : )

Hobbies? Hum- I used to be a competitive figure skater... I think that is where I get the sparkle factor in my life. Now a days I love reading, traveling, hunting for pieces to use in my designs and seeing as much lovely art and beautiful things as I can.

Inspiration? New York City, Women in general- my mother- my grandmother- my friends- all the amazing artists and art makers on this earth- past and present- be that living or dead.

Travel? Yes please- I just got back from Morocco and it was amazing. I love Europe and really going anywhere I can - I especially love getting off the beaten path and experiencing a city as its locals do. I just moved from NYC (after 13 years) to LA (I grew up in Utah)- I would go to NYC every other day if I could.

Purpose? Not sure- still figuring that out. Really I love making something that makes the wearer feel beautiful the moment they put it on- making people feel like the spotlight is shining on them- bringing out who they are through their fashion choices. I love that when I see other women having a beautiful moment- whatever that entails. For that reason I feel very honored to help brides on their special day- what a compliment.

Your uniqueness? Oh dear- too much to say. I am totally lead through life by my senses- sight- feel- smell. I love being able to have people gain insight into my personality by what I am wearing- and I love being able to give that experience to my customers.

Why jewelry? I don't really think of myself as a jewelry designer - I would not have the first idea how to make a ring- although I would love to learn how to cast and weld. I really am an artist at heart- be that through painting, decorating or designing.. I just find accessories and jewelry fun and fresh and so easy right now- I love how you can wear the same thing all week- but no one will know because you can totally change the look and feel of a whole outfit- just by the accessories and the jewelry. I am looking to get more into classic "jewelry" making- but at this point prefer to hide under the label of artist or accessory designer... maybe one day!
